Eclipse Technique

Have you wanted to add that little extra pop to your cards but wasn’t sure how to accomplish it? The eclipse technique is an easy way to add dimension to your cards– check it out!

You will need 2 layers of paper, approximately 4-5″. You want it to fit onto your card front, but it can be any shape you desire (square, rectangular, circular, etc) You choose the paper you want- it can be either DSP or color cardstock. Here I chose a Daisy print DSP and lemon lolly cardstock, but you can definitely use 2 pieces of cardstock. It works with any paper combination.

Next, you’re going to cut a shape from your top layer, using a punch or dies. The Cheerful Daisies dies in the current catalog would be perfect for this paper, but I’m just going to use a label punch that I have on hand.

Go ahead and glue down the larger piece onto your unpunched layer. As you can see, I flipped my paper because I wanted the label more towards the top. With this particular print, it looks good in either direction. If your paper has an obvious up and down pattern, be sure to punch or die cut accordingly.

Take your punched shape, and using dimensionals, adhere it to the card. You can position it exactly as you punched it, or you can tilt it or offset it a little for a different effect. I chose to place it straight on:

You can also vary the height- use mini dimensionals for a slight difference, regular dimensionals (as pictured above) or even double up on your dimensionals for added height.

Here’s the finished card-our layered papers on a lost lagoon card base. This is such a fun color to use, and I’ve found it goes with a lot of DSP that I currently have.
