Strip Technique

Hi friends! I rediscovered a fun technique yesterday that I want to share with you. It’s a perfect way to use up some of your scrap DSP, but of course you can also cut down a regular sheet if your scraps aren’t big enough.

You’ll want to start with a piece of cardstock that measures 4″ x 5 1/4″. It can be any color; I’ve seen this technique done using both black and white cardstock, but there’s no reason why you couldn’t choose any color that matches with your DSP.

You’ll want to choose 4 different patterns of DSP that coordinate well together. If you are using papers from Stampin’ Up!, the patterns are designed to coordinate with each other.

Ensure that your strips are long enough to cover your cardstock, then cut them at a slight angle. You don’t need to be precise here. You can make them as wide or narrow as you’d like.

Do this for all 4 patterns- you should have 2 of each pattern. You can then start adhering them to your cardstock. Alternate the wide and narrow ends as shown below. Leave a small gap between the pieces so you can see the color of the cardstock. It’s totally fine if your gaps are not the same; it just adds to the character of the card! If your edges hang over the edge of the cardstock, just place back in your paper cutter and trim the edges.

Choose a color cardstock for your card base (I used boho blue) and glue to the front of your card base.

Attach a greeting to the front- this technique will work well for any type of greeting. I like to put a piece of white cardstock on the inside that measures 4″ by 5 1/4″; it gives the card a nice look and provides an area for you to write your message.

Let me know if you try this technique- I’d love to see what you come up with!

Happy Creating!
