Spotlighting Technique

Hi friends! Do you love the look of black and white stamping? I know I do, and sometimes I’d like to add a pop of color to the card. You can easily do that with the spotlighting technique.

Start with a white piece of cardstock that measures 3.75″ x 5″. Stamp your design in black ink. I stamped some of my flowers off the edge to give it a more flowing look. You will need to decide if you want to stamp your greeting now, or if you will add it later on a die cut.

Using your die cutting machine or punch, cut out the area you want to highlight with color. I used Stylish Shapes, which is my all-time favorite die set, but use what you have! It doesn’t need to be a circle, any shape will work.

Stick your white cardstock onto a piece of black cardstock that measures 4″ x 5.25″, and attach your cutout circle to a bigger piece of black cardstock. For my example, my cutout circle measures 2.5″ and my black circle measures 3″.

Color in the stamped design on your circle. Line up your circle with the design on the front and attach to your card. Add your sentiment if you didn’t stamp it earlier.

I used Flirty Flamingo cardstock, but my flowers are colored in using Calypso Coral blends. Experiment with different color combinations to see what you like best.

Finally, attach it to your card base. I absolutely love the combination of black and pink together! This technique provides a nice pop of color and you don’t need to color all the images.

Try this out next time you are creating, and let me know what you think!

Happy Stamping,

Jen
