Stampin’ Up! Changes Announced

I don’t often share information here directly from Stampin’ Up!, as I prefer to leave this space mainly for creativity, but I feel this is newsworthy enough to compose an informational post concerning it. Stampin’ Up! has announced the discontinuation of two product lines as well as updated packaging for stamps and dies. Read on to find out more information…….

First, the cling stamps (red rubber) are being phased out, effective with the November release of the Online Exclusives. This is due to raw materials being difficult to source. Cling stamps are currently still available to purchase, but will not be reordered when the inventory is depleted. Bottom line: if you see a cling stamp set you like, do not wait to order, thinking it will be available to the end of the catalog, because it may not.

Second, the Stampin’ Write markers are being discontinued, and are currently available as ‘Last Chance’ items. The primary technique of these markers is to use them to color on cling stamps instead of using ink pads. Because the cling stamps are being phased out it made sense to discontinue this product line as well.

Because the cling stamps are thicker than photopolymer stamps, they required a bigger case to hold them. So it makes sense that a redesign of the stamp cases is coming. Stamps and dies will come in the same size packaging; they will be thinner than what is currently available, similar to die envelopes. And speaking of die envelopes, they will get upgraded to include product artwork as well. Current empty stamp cases will be available for purchase if you prefer to use those, and new stamp/die organizers will be available for purchase if you want to move your current sets into the new packaging.

My thoughts? It’s a little sad to hear this news, as cling/red rubber stamps have been around for a long time, but I personally prefer working with photopolymer stamps. I’m also a bigger fan of alcohol markers, so the elimination of Stampin’ Write markers (which are water based) are not critical to my work.

There is definitely an organizational plus to the new stamp and dies packaging, as they will measure 5 5/8” x 9”, but will be thinner so take up less space in your craft area.

What about you? Do you love cling stamps and water based markers? Reach out to me if you have questions, and I’ll be happy to answer them for you.
