Transform Your Cards with This Quick Watercolor Technique

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to step up your card making? Try this watercolor method the next time you are in your craft space and see what you come up with!

You only need 4 simple supplies: an acrylic block, an ink pad, watercolor paper and water. Don’t overlook the benefits of using watercolor paper: it is denser and is textured to absorb water, whereas regular cardstock is smooth and best suited for drier techniques. Watercolor paper adds weight and texture that upgrades the overall look and feel of a handmade card.

Start with a clean acrylic block. You want your block to be as big as your card front. For example, if you normally use a piece of DSP that measures 4″ by 5 1/4″, you’ll want to use a block that matches that size. Larger is ok, because you can trim the edges.

Ink up your block- make sure all areas are covered. Lightly mist the ink with water. If you don’t have a mister, you can sprinkle water over the block using your fingertips or use a dropper.

Press the ink and water side down onto the watercolor, and rub the block with your fingers to make sure it all absorbs in. Lift the block off, and you now have your background for your card front.

Here’s a card I made using this technique. In addition to the supplies I used for the paper, I used the Endless Love bundle available now in the Jan – April 2026 catalog.

I’d love to see the creations you come up with! If you have any questions with the process, feel free to reach out on socials or email me at stampwithjenvitek@gmail.com.
