Hi friends! I wanted to post a second fun fold this week, because this is really a variation of the Book Binding- Horizontal design. This one looks more like a traditional book, and I chose to use ribbon on the binding part instead of patterned paper. Read on for all the details…
Supplies Needed:
- 8.5 x 11 sheet of colored cardstock (should match your patterned paper)
- 6 x 6 piece of white cardstock
- 3 x 5.25 piece of patterned paper
- stamps, inkpad, paper trimmer tool with scoring blade, double sided adhesive tape
- 10 inches of 3/4″ ribbon
- optional: dies and die cutting machine
Instructions:
- Cut your colored cardstock in half at 5.5; you should have 2 sheets that measure 5.5 x 8.5. Set one piece aside to make a second card or for later use.
- Score your card base at 3.25 and 4.25; fold in half (at the 4.25 score line). Then fold back at the 3.25 score line to form your binding.
- For this card I attached ribbon to the spine instead of patterned paper. The ribbon will be secured on the inside with double sided adhesive tape. Place 2 strips of tape on the inside of your spine as shown:

4. Turn the card over, and position your ribbon across the front of it. There should be extra ribbon hanging off the bottom and the top of your card base.

5. Reach underneath and peel the backing off the top tape. Press your ribbon end onto the tape to secure it in place. Repeat with the bottom ribbon end. The inside should look similar to this:

6. Place a 5.5 inch length of tape over the top of the ribbon on the inside, so you can secure it shut over the ribbon. I do recommend using a double sided adhesive tape, as you need something a little stronger to keep it closed.

7. Press down to seal and make your binding.

8. Attach your 3 x 5.25 patterned paper to the front of your card. Stamp and attach your sentiment.

9. Cut a 2.75 x 5 piece of white cardstock for the inside of your card. Stamp your greeting on it, and then adhere. I left my card blank as it could be appropriate for any occasion.

Notes:
- I used 3/4″ ribbon but I think 5/8″ ribbon works best. Here’s an example of 5/8″ ribbon on a horizontal card:

- If you want to use patterned paper instead of ribbon for the spine of your card, you will need a piece that measures .75″ x 5.25″

Let me know if you try this, and what you think! I’d love to see what you create!
